Metropolitan area series under the state of emergency -Nihonbashi-

This street corner watching will be the metropolitan area series under the state of emergency.
The fifth is Nihonbashi.

February 5, 2021 I’m in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.
It is located at the end of the 10th ward of the final section of the Hakone Ekiden, a New Year’s tradition.
The goal is in front of the Yomiuri Shimbun headquarters in Otemachi.
Nihonbashi is within walking distance from JR Tokyo Station.
The subway has Nihonbashi Station and Mitsukoshimae Station.
In the Edo period, this was a key point of transportation and logistics as the starting point of the Five Routes.
By the way, the five highways are Tokaido, Nakasendo, Koshu highway, Oshu highway, and Nikko highway.
There is a statue of Kirin with big wings in the center of the bridge with the meaning of “fluttering from here”.
It prospered as the center of Edo’s commercial and tradesman culture, and was a representative area of downtown.
Since that time, financial institutions such as money changers have been concentrated in this area.
Even today, Nihonbashi is a part of Tokyo’s financial and economic center, with its office districts and commercial areas expanding.
In 1873, the first national bank, the First National Bank, was established in Nihonbashi Kabutocho and is also known as the birthplace of banks.
There are still the Bank of Japan Head Office and the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Many buildings designated as Important Cultural Properties, such as the Bank of Japan Head Office, Mitsui Main Building, Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Main Store, and Takashimaya Nihonbashi Store, remain here.
It is a very fashionable city where old and new atmospheres coexist.

This concludes the introduction of Nihonbashi.
