Unfortunately, you cannot see Kintaikyo Bridge from the train window of the Nishikigawa Railway Seiryu Line, which runs from Nishikicho to Iwakuni City.
However, if you look at the top of the mountain, you can see Iwakuni Castle.
I chartered a taxi from JR Iwakuni Station and went to Kintaikyo Bridge.
I had the taxi stopped on one side of Kintaikyo Bridge and the taxi waited on the other side.
I could see Nishiki River, Iwakuni Castle, and Kintaikyo Bridge with 5 wooden arches.
Often this magnificent bridge is made without the use of a single nail.
I was surprised that it was completed in the Edo period, not in the present age.
Kintaikyo Bridge is said to be one of the three famous bridges in Japan.
In addition, there are Meganebashi (Nagasaki City) and Nihonbashi (Tokyo).
This place has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots as a famous place for cherry blossoms.
The ban on sweetfish in Nishikigawa will be lifted on June 1st.
